Community

Alright friends, now that we’ve gotten the mushy stuff out of the way. Let me keep it real. There’s no sugar coating it. The autism community is incredible; however, we are probably the most heavily divided disability community. We can’t agree on anything. From what colors to symbols to wording and therapies, diets, labels, levels, etc. to use. It’s really quite a bummer. I won’t go into the many this vs. that topics. There is plenty of that online. I really do wish that we could get along and support each other. Everyone’s autism journey is unique. Everyone has different needs. No single organization can serve everyone. We all deserve to belong and to feel included in our community. We shouldn’t compare our experiences to others and think that our way is the only way of thought.

My opinion is my own and it’s okay if ours differ from one another. We can form our own opinions about these topics that divide us while still respecting one another. It’s not a perfect world, but think about how much better and more inclusive our world would be if we truly supported each other. I will do my best to provide a well rounded website and to share events and resources from as many partners as I can. We can all work towards being kind and inclusive… isn’t that what we would want for our kids and ourselves? Let’s make this community supportive and successful for all.
